At the helm of one of the fast growing women-led organization in North America, Lori Blaker serves as a devoted advocate for women’s rights. Even as her company continues to expand globally, she still finds time to mentor and guide individual women to their greatest potential.

In 2008, Blaker mentored an Afghani woman through the Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women’s Business through Peace program. On the local level, Blaker meets regular with disadvantaged young women in Detroit through the Women of Tomorrow program.

“When I learned about the great work that WFWI was doing to transform the lives of women living in the most distressed countries including Afghanistan, I knew I wanted to get involved,” states Blaker. “I am in the business of learning solutions and workforce training and development and was most impressed by the WfWI training program. I support Women for Women International’s belief that lasting change can only be achieved when women have access to both knowledge and resources.”

Women for Women International works with socially excluded women in eight countries where war and conflict have devastated lives and communities. The sponsorship program supports women survivors of war and conflicts as they progress through a one-year program that helps them rebuild their lives.

Women who enroll in the one-year program learn job skills and receive business training so they can earn a living. They come to understand their rights and how to fight for those rights in their homes, their communities and their nations. Through the program women receive job-skills training, business and money management basics, and rights awareness education.

Sponsored women will also receive financial assistance to pay for necessities like buying food, medicine, and sending her children to school and support from other sponsored women in her community so she knows she is not alone. Country-specific education courses may include HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, literacy training, savings and investment counseling and other training.
